Hazelwood and Minchinhampton

Distance about 9.6 miles, allow just over an hour.
Be aware that in wet weather this is a very muddy ride in the Hazel Wood section!

The ride is a mix of off road and fairly quiet roads.

This ride takes you out of Nailsworth and up into Hazel Wood at the top of Tetbury Lane. A good ride down through the wood brings you out onto the Avening road, which you then take on to Avening. When you get to the bottom of the wood there is a gate into a field. That brings out out by the Weighbridge pub. Before you get to the gate you need to take a left turn that will take you along the bottom edge of the wood. At the end if that, take the sharp left which drops you onto the Avening road, which you turn right on and keep going on past the Weighbridge pub. In Avening, take a left turn up Rectory Lane and bare left at the top which becomes a track through the horse trials section of Gatcombe Park eventually coming out on the main road. Turn left which will take you to Minchinhampton than on towards the 'W' where it is a blast back into Nailsworth.

Take the route in an anti clockwise direction. The map is colour coded and if you take the anti clockwise direction suggested the red sections are up hill, the green sections are flat(ish) and the blue is downhill.

A GoPro video of the run through Hazel Wood is below. It's not very exciting but it might give you an idea of what to expect! Hazel Wood used to be a pretty fast run but the constant rain during 2012 has left a water rut most of the way down it and left lots of small stones all over the trail.
