The canal basin at Wallbridge (I think that's what this area is called!) is getting a clean up at the moment. Looking at the Cotswold Canals trust FAQ page this is probably a private enterprise job rather than being anything to do with the canal restoration project.

This is an interesting wall. I presume it must of been some sort of warehousing in the past.

There has been a lot of tree felling and clearing up on the otherside of the road as well, although there isn't really anything to photograph other than wood chippings!

I think that your second image shows part of the old Stroud Brewery and Maltings buildings B.

The Stroud and Swindon HQ in the background was also Stroud Brewery.

This is The Kings Arms near Butts at Wallbridge in the 1960's, does anyone remember it?

I wonder why the people of Stroud seem to be against any sensible improvements to their town?

A 'Concordat' (whatever that means) has been set up, but will they seize the opportunities to improve the Wallbride and Merrywalks area for the future?

When the Cotswold Canal is opened up through the town it will create more interest for everyone.

I think the tidy up might be in preparation for some multi millon pound scheme to replace the 2 crazy roundabouts and install some kind of fancy bridge over the canal. I think I did read somewhere to be prepared for up to 12 months of traffic chaos over and above that what already exists.

well maybe things will improve this year as the Stroud District Council has voted to take on a leading role in the restoration programme. This will attract huge funding into the area and improve the canal corridor all through the Stroud valley. People already use the old canal tow-paths for leisurely walks to view the wildlife around the stretches that are in water now. It is a nice safe cycle route from Nailsworth into Stroud via the cycleway and onto the tow path at Dudbridge.

Barking, your lovely photos are history now, as the whole area is rapidly changing.

I wonder what it will look like when it is all completed?

The plan was to divert it through a culvert under the road with the River Frome I think.

They need to speed up the works. Those silly double roundabouts are a confusing and dangerous mess. Get rid of them as soon as possible.
