I don't know that much about other languages so have no idea if they have the same delightful meanings for the same words.

But it must be interesting learn English ...British version or American version for a non-english speaking person.

Look at all the meanings we have for one word.

i.e. I mean are you mean ? How confusing

Thanks for giving me some of the British meanings, it widens my education.

Nice to see you back Dani

Here's another for you.

I wouldn't go asking about the faucets in the B&B.

Over here we call them 'taps'

And if you like creamy milk on your breakfast cereal no-one will understand if you ask for half & half

Real coffee might be made in a cafetiere, but never a french press

Thanks Sinn,

I couldn't stay away.

You all are too much fun and give me interesting information.

I'll just watch my P & Q's as my mother used to tell me.

So do you say Beer is on Tap ?

We use that when not asking for beer in a bottle.

Preferred way is to have it on tap, not from a bottle.

Dani, if you ever have to ask for an eraser in Britain, well...better to just point to what you want.

And what you call a beam, we call a girder.

Girder me up Scottie!

Girder me up Scottie....

( Better than Girdle me up Scottie ! )

Love it !

A Star Trek fan ?

As a devout ScFi fan, I started with the original series when it first came on.

Who would have thought that Captain Kirk would still be acting in the great series Boston Legal.

He just gets better with age. Shows one what a girdle and a hairpiece can do for an older man.

And, TJ Hooker ?

Trekkie Trivia - did you know that JT Kirk was not the first head honcho ? Who was the first and where is he now ?

Jeffrey Hunter was a great looking guy and good actor.

He turned down the role after the pilot ! Amazing.

"In 1969, while filming "Viva America" in Spain, Jeffrey Hunter was accidently injured in an explosion on the set. Soon afterward he began complaining of dizziness and headaches. He was briefly hospitalized upon his return to Los Angeles and, shortly afterward, on May 27th, 1969 he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while on a stairway in his home. He fell and struck his head. He died during surgery to repair the skull fracture. Jeffrey Hunter was 42 years of age."

That's sad, Dani.

What I do remember is that Captain Pike appeared in a rare double episode of Star trek with William Shatner. The producers way back in 1966 had filmed a couple of episodes intended as a pilot for a possible series, which were never used then. When the series took off with Shatner, they had the brilliant idea of using some of this footage incorporated into a Shatner episode.

The plot is that the Enterprise hears an old distress signal from Pike's starship on a planet, Kirk and team beams(girders) down and meets him as an invalid.

Live long and prosper!

Well at least senior executives at the Environment Agency got their 5 figure performance bonuses a short time ago

And the Spanish newspaper, La Vanguardia, yesterday said that " ...this time the victims of a natural disaster are the snobs and aristocrats of the realm, in a place where any house costs over 1.5 million pounds".

They say some dumbass things sometimes.
