I don't regard these sort of remarks funny. Have you ever been into Ruskin Mill and seen the work they do with people who need support. Have you talked to these so called 'hippies' to find out what they are building and what they want the buildings for.

Go along and find out for yourself and then come back and post on here what you have seen and learnt. You might just do yourself a favour.

It's not so much about achieving high level Exam results, but more to do with learning life skills to enable them to lead a useful life out in the community.

Ruskin Mill did start in a very small way, then expanded to include the fishery, woodland and farm at Barton End. This is all used for the purpose of learning how to manage woodland, grow food, rear animals and fish, arts and crafts, and good communication skills. All their buildings are put to good use, also builings in town are sometimes utilised.

NR seem to get in a real muddle doesn't he!

Perhaps someone associated with the college could explain just what a community centre is for and why the proposed centre is so far removed from the rest of the Ruskin Mill "community".

As for the students being autistic, is that really the case? The web site says "For a quarter of a century, Ruskin Mill Educational Trust has pioneered a unique, holistic and student-centred approach to the education and care of young people who fall between the cracks of mainstream provision"

I took that to mean that the students are delinquents, who in times past would have been in a Borstal.

Are the fees all paid by the taxpayer, and it true that they are about £1000 per week?

It's really quite simple for anyone who wishes to know what goes within the Ruskin Mill community, simply make an appointment to speak with the pricipal Michael Frocsh and take along your list of detailed questions. All the hypothetical suggestions of what takes place within in the mill are simply that. To suppose and post a load of inacurate information on here is completely useless unless it's backed up with fact. Ruskin Mill is not taking over the world, it seeks to provide an environment for young people with complex and mixed learning difficulties to be educated and looked after, that is what basically what happens there.

I've heard that they've bought up The Bell And Castle in Horsley. Anyone know if this is true?

No. The "Church" of Scientology beat them to it. (Unfortunately). Apparently, after L.A, Horsely was the next most gullible New Agey place on the planet that they could find. Get ready to welcome Tom Cruise and fellow acolytes soon!

I can confirm that the college is planning on building a new centre up next to the barns they built a couple of years ago near the Tipputs Inn. I went along to the planning meeting and found out a lot about this new build. It turns out that a lot of people object to its being built there because it is such a prominent place in the valley, it is just bellow the crest of the hill.

The overall feeling afterwards was that Ruskin Mill where being deceptive within their planning application and seemed very eager to get the planning through as quickly as possible. Ruskin Mill had made a lot of promises to local people in the previous planning meeting and had failed to add any of the new documents agreed by the village council.

People are not against Ruskin Mill but they are against this new "Biological research and training centre", they feel its all part of the 'Ruskin Mill Creep'.
