I'd make a guess that they wish to demolish the Crown so they can create a better junction off the A46 for the development.

It's a bit hairy as it stands now, and makes you wonder how the developments got the nod in the first place.....

Looks like I need to consult me legal team, again tomorrow, for more libel damages.

At this current rate "we will be millionaires Rodney" in a few weeks time, and than I can rebuild the park in no time

The Councl confirms that an application to demolish the pub and replace with apartments has been made. Not surprising as reasons for refusal have been traffic problems. Actually, since Newman Hender beautifully opened up and maintained their land, there hardly is a problem.

A new planning application has been posted on the notice board outside the town hall.

It is for demolition of the old Inn and the building six two-bedroomed flats!

get the cameras ready!

That's a disgrace! The Crown Inn is a historic coaching inn and part of our heritage.

Do we really want a block of modern flats on that bend? The Crown adds a bit of quiet charm to a boring, modern road.

I was one of the ones who "manned the barricades" to save the Hill Paul building in Stroud. I can see that I'll have to dust down my placards and get my hard hat out again!

Of course we need flats there!

Why, the building is in a state!

It's not been used as a pub for nearly 10 years!

People need to make money!

LOL!

The building is in a state, so let's tear it down, eh? And who, exactly, are these people who "need" to make money? Probably some already-quite-wealthy-enough developer who will snatch it up for a pittance, replace it with something ugly and over-priced and thus driving the housing prices further and further away from local people who won't be able to afford them.

It's a slow but sure trend which is happening all around us. And as far as I can tell, the only people benefiting are the developers and the people who can afford the price tags.

I guess the rest of us have to just sit back and watch it all happen. If we can still afford to, that is. I've known so many people being priced out of this area by weekenders and developers. People who have lived here for years and years, people who love this community and will do anything for it. Except now they can't because they can no longer afford to live here.

CNR, your post may have been tongue-in-cheek but, anyway, I would ask you:

1) Why do we need flats there? I presume that they would be for eldely residents at Crystal Fountain Village who own it. Aren't we well-served enough with accommodation for older people in this area?

2) The building is in a state because Crystal Fountain Village have deliberately let it decay so that they can obtain planning permission to demolish it more easily. CFV should have been leaped on from a great height by the planners as soon as the Crown began to deteriorate.

3) Just because it has not been used for its original purpose for some time does not mean that it could not flourish again.

4) Yes, people do need to make money but not at the expense of our history and heritage. Surely we should be permitted to retain a few interesting buildings from our past?

RR, nice post.

I just thought that I had put it a bit more succinctly.
