Last week, Gloucestershire County Council Highways department recommended the current planning application at the Crown be refused on accessibility grounds.

I have not known the district council to ignore advice from GCC Highways, but we will have to wait and see...

That's good news, Dave.

When will the final outcome be known?

I am concerned that even if the planning application is refused, Crystal Fountain Village will allow the poor old pub to deteriorate so much that demolition will be the only answer. In other words, they'll get their own way by stealth! They need to be made to keep the building good and solid for future generations.

The decision was due at the end of May.

Here is the link to the SDC website that I posted before:

http://www.stroud.gov.uk/docs/planning/planning_application_detail.asp?AppRef=S.07/0885/FUL

It contains all of the latest info on the application.

Bluchie Ltd. have now applied for "Conservation Area Consent" for "Demolition of Public House and outbuildings"

Looks like its time to start writing your objections again.

It's hardly a grade 2 listed building. Is it?

Oh Proust! You obviously haven't read the forum properly. Just because its not a pretty building doesn't mean that its not old. Just go back over the forum and read some previous posts and you will find out that there is a lot of history in that fine old building. Too much of our history has been destroyed because 'someone' thought it was ugly.

I read in today's 'S.N. & J.' that yesterday the S.D.C. granted permission to convert the old inn into 6 flats with car parking.

Another part of our heritage whittled away!

Maybe RR; but if they keep the facade then it could be a good compromise - altho not now a "local", I used to be and doubt if anyone would ever use it again as a pub.

This way, maybe it can again serve a useful purpose, have all structural matters attended to and at least remain (from the outside) "as it always used to be"

Don't Panic RR!

The entry in this weeks SNJ is just notification of the NEW application for "Conservation Area Consent" (CAC) to demolish the Crown.

It is not about a grant of planning permission for the demolition, the decision on that application is still pending.

So get writing your objections, I doubt that any comments about previous applications will not count against the CAC.

You have until the 27th of this month to make your objections known

If anyone thinks that badgers, bats or others protected species are active on the site then maybe this is the time to bring it to the attention of SDC. Or maybe there are some trees on the site that require preservation orders. anything to help save the Crown.

Sorry, that last post was from me.

I also meant that I doubt any comments about previous applications will count against the CAC.

If I was an underhand, devious person I would creep down to the Crown in the dead of night and introduce colonies of great crested newts and pipistrel bats on the land!

I saw a dead badger on the side of the road near the pub a couple of weeks ago. Maybe there's a sett there.

I do, Wozie. They'd love it there.

Plenty of water around for the newts and lots of insects for the bats!
