I have lived in nailsworth all my life, apart from a brief spell when studying at Oxford, so I have reasonable viewpoint on the town. It has changed plenty over the years and in my opinion not for the better. I shop here only for the odd pint of milk and other such items, I find the surrounding towns much better. Its dirty, outdated and overpriced. There is nothing of note in the town but I do like the copper kettle. Nailsworth, so boring they named it once.

I wouldn't say it was boring, more that there's a sharp divide between 'native' Nailsworthians and 'incomers', a fair number of the latter being, ahem, alternative.

I've only lived down here 17 years and although I've made really, really good friends who are 'local', I'm still a bit of an incomer, even though I'm widely liked.

The fact that I haven't been able to escape the bloody place in 17 years, despite moving house 3 times, must say something about what it's like here. Infuriating at times ... but I can't think of anywhere that would be better. For me.

Cirencester. Lovely town with a good mix of shops and a decent market.

Malmesbury. Again a nice town. Always clean, even if a bike race is not passing through. Good parking long and short stay. Dont get of wrong, Nailsworth does have its good points. Namely the A46.

It's a great place to live and on a day to day basis everyone is positive, friendly and helpful. There are all sorts of things to do locally, either in Nailsworth or Sroud and Prema in Uley is worth looking at too for classes etc. Look at the local free newsletter, the Nailsworth News for information. Lots of surrounding villages have classes too and nowhere is too far to get to if you have a car or bicycle (and strong legs as lots of hills!). Buses are available but timetables may not always get you there in time for what you need.

Your just highlighting the lack of things in Nailsworth by promoting nearby places. Most towns in the Cotswolds are friendly its not Nailsworth specific.

OK Mr Oxford student, if you dislike Nailsworth so much why are you still here? I moved to Nailsworth 27 years ago and I agree it has changed in that time but we love it and wouldn't want to live anywhere else locally. Also I'm guessing you didn't read maths at Oxford. Cirencester - named once. Malmesbury - named once also.............. or am I missing something.
