LINCOLN LIMPS FALL TO ROVERS. Forest Green Rovers bring their one hundred per cent record into today's game following victory at Boreham Wood on Tuesday evening. Today's visitors Lincoln City will be on recent form their sternest test to date. As the 'Budding' ale is sunk it is generally agreed that Lincoln will probably score and Rovers need to improve markedly from Tuesday to keep their unbeaten tag. The temperature is in the high twenties as Pipe leads the team out. It is the same line-up that started on Tuesday. Parkin returns to the bench following injury. Kelly still tweaked one supposes. Lincoln are first out of the blocks winning a free kick in a central position thirty yards out. Bush strikes the ball low through the wall where it takes a deflection but Maxted is alert and saves well diving to his right. On six minutes Bush again tests Maxted from a free kick. This time the Rovers custodian quickly throws the ball to Pipe who sets Rovers on attack. The ball is worked across the park to Frear on the left who 'skins' Bush and crosses from the by-line to the unmarked O' Connor who puts his header wide from a great position. Good work from Marsh-Brown gave Guthrie a chance but his shot went wide. Lincoln were conceding possession to the home side in mid-field and Guthrie took advantage, taking the ball from defence right to the edge of the Lincoln penalty area where he was brought down, only to see Jennings put the kick over the bar. On 24mins Rovers took a deserved lead from a free kick, again won by Guthrie on the right. Frear crossed, and as the heads went up the ball, it ran loose across goal, struck central defender Waterfall, and rolled to Jennings. To Waterfall's dismay, and nearly two hundred Red Imps fans behind the goal, the Rovers full back slotted the ball inside the right hand post. Lincoln endeavoured to hit back immediately and only a terrific block by Bennett denied one chance the ball breaking to veteran striker Rhead who curled his effort wide. Marsh-Brown and Guthrie are working well together and on 40mins an exchange of passes on the edge of the area ended with Guthries run being blocked, the ball spinning to O' Connor who repeated Jennings finish inside the right hand post. Lincoln were reeling as half time approached but forced a succession of corners before the whistle all comfortably dealt with by Maxted and his defence. Only half way but FGR fans are well pleased and somewhat surprised by Lincoln's performance. The Brazil strip appears a bit wasted on them. |
