I have been given a bell by a dear friend who died. She lived in Nailsworth as a child and said the bell had been given to her father by the station master when the railway was closed down.

It is a handbell but is heavy and needs two hands to lift it. The wooden base is 3 inches high and the bell is 24 inches.

I would like to know it the bell was ever used at the station and, if so, for what purpose.

Thank you.

I wonder if the bell might have been taken off something like an engine and the long handle and base added afterwards. Or maybe its a ceremonial bell. A bell that needs two hands to ring would be a bit impractical for daily use!
