Again nothing to do with Nailsworth but there seem to be some clever techies out there and I need help.... Darling husband has bought dearest son a much longed for X Box in the US of A... They plugged it in together anticipating a modern day bonding session but it went 'phut' and died. They have both walked away in disgust but my Protestant Waste Not Want Not ethic tells me we should mend it - even though I don't have a clue what it does. Any answers? slbscarter@aol.com

Two things... Most important first.

USA use 115v for the mains supply and we have 250v. Ideally though most computer power supplies will run at both these days but have a look at the label on the PSU/XBox.

Second, the TV standard is different. We have a system called PAL, they have a dreadful system called NTSC. Wouldnt make anything go bang though!

So, Bark, thanks for that but what should I actually do next? Take it somewhere? Throw it away? Buy something? I am at sea. This is not my area of expertise.

Good little company in Stonehouse called Electest UK. They test and fix that sort of stuff.01453-821201.

The XBOX has a Power supply that looks just like a normal PC power supply, which you can buy for around a tenner. THE CONNECTIONS ARE DIFFERENT so while it will plug into the XBOX main board it won't work and will possibly damage the board.

http://www.whitedog.co.uk sell the proper XBox power supply for £40. Ouch

That's assuming that the faulty item!
