So, according to the local Stroud paper, the SNJ Stroud is to the proud owner of a huge 10 story tower block at Wallbridge.

One of the quotes (and there are many) says "it will also add to the canal regeneration".

Call me an old cynic, but how does a ten story tower block do anything for the canal regeneration? I thought the whole point of canal life was to get away from consumerism and all that nonsense.

Maybe some of the businesses in the building will be selling long boat orientated stuff like rope, colourful paint and maybe the odd cart horse to drag the thing over the filled in canal at Brimscombe.

This one made me laugh:

Speaking to the SNJ this week, managing director Julian Magee said: "This lovely new building will galvanise Stroud again and perhaps take it forward.

What does 'Perhaps' mean? What kind of promotional talk is that? Could it also mean it might take it backwards? Perhaps was a very bad choice of word for a marketing man. No points on that one! I'm not sure what 'galvanising Stroud again' means either!

It also says, 'A planning application will be made within the next six weeks if all the businesses are signed up. There will be no additional public consultation'.

Does that mean the thing will be built no matter what public opinion might be?

Obviously Mr Magee failed to notice that there are huge Govt. and council cuts on the way. Hey ho.

The canal would cost millions to 'regenerate' for little return. Obviously the morons that pump out this useless twaddle do not realise that huge councils cuts are on the way and we are still far from being out of the economic morass. Psycj babble from the ignorant.

SDC planners have some funny ideas. I can remember a member of the planning committee claiming that McDonalds would "put Stroud on the map". I wonder which one he had in mind?

I'm not sure about pulling people into Stroud. The Slad road is closed for the next two or three months, then after that the rest of the year is going to be hell as they build the new bridge over the canal.

This will have people avoiding the place at all possible cost!

Are they ever going to build a proper bus station again?

Haven't you heard ? Useful projects like building a proper bus station are out. Useless is now the way forward in modern town planning.

Instead of 20 storey building projects. SDC should be concentrating on repairing the roads after the freeze. They were becoming a disgrace before the snow. Now they are a disgrace with pot hoes everywhere.

Potholes are responsibility of GCC not SDC. But still agree with your point.
