THE County Council Highways see all planning applications, but in my day their advice was not necessarily taken. I always remember when an application was made for a small development up Springill, the representitive said "in my view no applications which involve the use of the roundabout should be allowed." Times change. Do we have over a thousand units by now? Newmarket, Forest Green, etc.

As I no longer drive, I frequently walk from the Dunkirk Mill bus stop to Incbrook. Yesterday, as I walked, I counted the traffic going towards Stroud. (About 4pm) 115 vehicles of all sorts passed me. The slow up light was frequently in use. a similar number was going towards Nailsworth. Do people use the A46 instead of the motorway? Admittedly I don't walk as fast as I used to, but it was a very crowded road. Times Change.

Probably Betty! We definitely have enough houses to cause overload on the sewers I would think. Can we carry on building so many houses without updating the roads and sewer system, which was laid in the early 1900's in Nailsworth btw. I think not!

I understand from my sources that the planners have given the go ahead for the flat developement. This is despite the objections from the highway department. This site is situated in the flood zone, no special measures have been incorporated into the design to prevent flooding. The officier who recommended approval despite objections has left the council. Contrary to usual practice the planning application has been approved prior to conservation area consent being granted. Having read correspondence between the planning officier and the developers agent(avilable online at SDC) it could be construed that planning had been granted prior to the consultation period being finished. It could be very embarrasing should conservation area consent be refused.Should this happen questions of this planning application should be raised.

Well the old place has stood empty for the last three years or more, is anything being done to utilise it yet?

Cor blimey it's been mouldering and empty for four years now, this should not be allowed to happen when there is a housing shortage.

Since it has been empty for so long, maybe the owners would be willing to consider a realistic offer?

It has permission for demolition and 6 new flats I think, so the site is probably worth a few quid.

Come on, this is standard big business practice. Let the place get beyond economical repair then pull it down to replace it with an identikit ugly building with no character whatsoever.
