There seems to be a lot of trees getting the chop around one side of Uley Bury at the moment. Reasons given in the past I think is to make it how it 'used' to look. With 'used' being an odd term considering the age of the planet!

There has also been a landslide on the far side of it, that has caused a lot of tree material and mud to semi block the path leading to it from the Kennels in the valley.

Landslide on the path. That's a gate in the background with a large clump of tree roots in front of it.

And the wood cutting.

I'm not sure how far down the bank they are intending to go with that, but some parts of it go all the way to the lower path. Personally, I hate to see trees being cut like this. Not my best photos, the weather has been dreadful for photo taking this year!

Thanks for the photo's Barking.

It is a shame about the trees, I used to love walking around it on a stormy day listning to the wind rushing through the trees.

Still, I presume they actually know what they are doing.

Better still, walking around at night is an expierence i can tell you.

Sorrry, I don't understand this. Cutting down perfectly healthy trees which help to permit us to breathe, and the excuse is to make it "look like it used to"??

What kind of argument is that?

Britain was almost entirely covered by forest even up to 500 years ago. Uley Bury like all the area was covered too. If they want to make things look as they "used to" a good start would be ripping up the stretch of the M5 there. same logic, right?

PS Thanks for the pics Barking although the subject is sad this time.

Erm Wolfie, you didn't actually run around the place at night playing at soldiers like yours truly, did you? Nitexes?

I used to sit in the middle of the field and contemplate my existence

Very good activity Wolfie, very good! I used to do the same on the Common coming back from a hearty evening at a certain establishment.

Ulay Bury was more active for me and fellow masochists, however. We used to have organised night wargames up and down the Bury at the dead of night.

Great fun! It only occurred to me many years later..."Why would the Russians want to invade Uley Bury?"

It seems more popular to plant trees in towns and cities now when the countryside is a much better place for them.
